| The Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) is a health benefits program that shares the cost of certain healthcare services and supplies with eligible beneficiaries. This program is administered by the VA Health Administration Center (HAC) in Denver, Colorado. CHAMPVA eligible beneficiaries are the spouse or widow(er) and the dependant children of a veteran who:
- Rated permanently and totally disabled due to a service connected disability
- Rated permanently and totally disabled due to a service connected condition
at the time of death
- Died of a service connected disability
- Died while on active duty
Matrix was the first to electronically process CHAMPVA pharmacy claims in 1993. Matrix offers a "Claim Capture" program that edits the claim for compliance with CHAMPVA guidelines and returns the applicable co-pay on-line to the pharmacy. Matrix utilizes the HIPAA compliant National Council of Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) standards to electronically capture all claims at the point of sale. Matrix can also provide extensive management reports to track drug, demographic, physician, and other drug utilization statistics.
